How to Keep Baby Cool and Happy in the Sun

Posted : January 9, 2020

While the summer months and sun are a welcome relief from the cold and wet weather for many, the youngest member of your family might not always agree, particularly when the temperature starts to creep higher and higher. Babies can become uncomfortable and grumpy when the sun is in their eyes and they’re feeling hot and sweaty.

Luckily there are lots of ways you can help your little bundle of joy feel happier and more comfortable. In fact, a search for baby sun product on bachchay.com might bring up some items you didn’t even know existed!

Clothing to Keep Baby Feeling and Looking Cool

With so many cute summer outfits to choose from, it can be hard to know which ones are best for those extra hot days. One good idea is to keep things simple – yes it’s good to have layers, but make sure the bottom one is comfortable and suitable to wear on its own while any top layers are comfortable, lightweight and easy to remove.

Pretty cotton summer dresses for baby girls are perfect, particularly if you team it with a sleeveless baby vest. For boys, a light, cotton t-shirt and shorts set would be best, again, over a sleeveless vest which can be worn on its own on the hottest part of the day.

Baby hats are also essential at this time of year; traditional sunhats with a trim all the way round, or, for when it’s time for a dip in the pool it would be worthwhile investing in a swimming hat that has a longer back section to cover up baby’s neck. Another swimming essential is an SPF factor swimsuit. They’re safe to wear in the sun as they help to protect baby’s sensitive skin from the sun and are also comfortable to wear in and out of the water.

Make some Shade

When it comes to protecting your smallest one from the sun’s rays there are, again, lots of options! For the pram or buggy you might want to invest in a parasol. You can buy ones that are specifically for a particular make, or you can search for one that will sit a number of different stroller models. They’re simple to attach, put up and remove and will keep that pesky sun out of your little one’s eyes when you’re out and about.

If that’s not working for you, you could always try some baby sunglasses! They are available in SPF factors and some come with a strap so your busy baby can’t grab and throw them.

For the car, why not get a stick-on sunshade. You can get them in all different colours with different characters or phrases on them and they’re easy to stick on and remove. They really do help keep the sun out of your little one’s eyes which should make for a calmer car journey for you!

And for days when you’re pleased you remembered the high factor sun cream but have forgotten to bring one of these incredibly useful items along with you one day, don’t worry. Just drape a muslin cloth over the buggy (well away from your little one’s face) or pop the edge over your car window and close it. It might not be quite as dark but it will provide some relief – for both of you!
