Move Over Mom And Dad, There’s A New Baker In The House!

Posted : December 28, 2019

Baking is a highly enjoyable and rewarding experience that all kids should learn. It’s important that parents ensure safety and supervision, however, as hot surfaces and other potentially dangerous kitchen features can easily lead to injury. Take care, and have fun!

There are countless delightful treats for kids to learn, but it all begins with learning the basics of most cakes and the like: eggs, sugar, flour and butter. Almost every doughy delight begins with melted butter and sugar. You mix these two ingredients together until a light and fluffy mixture appears. The next step it to add in eggs, and beat it all together. At this stage, a lot of people also add vanilla or other essences for flavouring.

Following that, one will then insert flour, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl and then mix. This separate bowl’s mixture will then be added to the previous buttery mixture, and all will be combined nicely.

And, there you have it! The foundations of many sweet treats. Each recipe will have its own variations, of course, so let’s look at one of the most popular baked goods for kids these days.

Giant Unicorn Sandwich Cookie

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease up and insert 2 x 11” (28 cm) tart containers, ensuring their bottoms are removal

  2. Melt some butter and add it to sugar in a bowl, mixing them together until light and fluffy. Whisk in eggs and add vanilla.

  3. Combine flour, salt and baking powder in another bowl. You want to gradually add the flour mix with the butter one, beating them together. Insert a ¼ cup (50 mL) of sprinkles and beat it into the mixture as well

  4. Separate the dough into halves and squash into readied tart pans. Divide up the sprinkles and squash them on top of every cookie.

  5. Now you are ready to bake, in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Allow to cool after.

  6. Now for the filling, which needs to be beaten for 5 minutes until very smooth. If you’re using food colouring, make sure to put it in at the end.

  7. Finally, time to assemble it all together. Place the cookies with their sprinkled side down, and then apply the filling evenly over top. Place the other cold cookie, sprinkle side up.
